Youths in Kilifi County have been challenged to venture into entrepreneurship so as to counter the prevalent high rate of unemployment.
Speaking Sunday during a dhow’s riding competition organized by the Coast Sea Survival Rescue team in the outskirts of Kilifi town, county’s Chief Officer Department of education, youth affairs and sports Aden Mohamed said time has come for the youths to be innovative and focus on entrepreneurship.
He said most of the youths in the area were languishing in unemployment with many pegging themselves on white collar jobs which were not forthcoming for majority of the youthful population.
“The county government cannot employ all of us. It is high time we think out of the box and explore the world of entrepreneurship”, he said.
Aden revealed that the county government through his docket has set aside sh.150 million for youths and women empowerment where they will be able to access none interest loans.
He urged the youth to shun drug abuse and other criminal elements and instead embrace activities that will develop them economically.
