Jua kali artisans in Wote town, Makueni county have demanded alternate work space after they were ordered to move.
The Department of Land and Physical Planning issued a vacate notice on July 10.
It told traders in areas zoned for commercial shops to immediately relocate to land adjacent to the open air market.
Led by their representative Kithome Mwanzui, the artisans claimed the land is a private property and called on the county government to look for an alternative land.
Speaking to KNA yesterday, he said they did not object to relocation itself.
“We are ready to vacate but we don’t know where to go,” Mwanzui said.
Speaking separately Lands executive Judith Kalinga denied the claims.
She, said the county government has set aside land for the relocation.
Kalinga said a contractor has started the design work of the market.
