Residents of Kouko village in West Kagan Location Rangwe Sub-County of Homa bay County woke up to a rude shock last Sunday after they found the grave of a 79 year-old woman buried three years ago, open.
Helena Anyango Ogola died in the year 2015 and her remains were interred at her homestead but Sunday night her body was reportedly exhumed by unknown people who took away the remains and left behind a coffin and her clothes inside the grave.
Confirming this bizarre incident to KNA, the area chief Kennedy Okoko said the coffin was spotted by the area clan elder who was among the church elders who were conducting door to door prayers at the village and alerted the relatives of the deceased.
Okoko added that the suspects carried the remains of the deceased after they had exhumed it leaving behind only the coffin and her clothes in the open grave.
The administrator said the motive behind the exhumation is still not clear while the whereabouts of the body is yet to be established.
He further revealed that they have identified a key suspect who was recently found exhuming bodies which have stayed in the graves for years within the village reportedly for sale for unknown use.
