Woman cries for help from government agencies

A 30 year old woman from Homa Bay County has appealed to Government agencies to help her secure divorce from her husband over alleged brutality.

Pamela Akinyi, a resident of Sofia Estate in Homa Bay town Sub County,complained that her husband has detained her national identity card in a bid to frustrate her efforts to terminate the marriage.

Akinyi, a mother of three, separated from her husband on Thursday last week after the man threatened to kill her plus her children.

I didn’t want to take a risk with my children because he wanted to kill us. I quit his house and rented another one at Shauri Yako estate in the same town, Akinyi said.

Her greatest concern is that the husband detained a number of her personal items including the identity card.

She recorded a statement at Homa Bay Police Station and secured an Occurrence Book number 19/8/6/18.

Akinyi, who works as a house help, now wants the husband arrested over the threats.

She also wants well-wishers to help her undertake a legal procedure of pursuing a divorce case to enable her get out of the marriage.

I don’t have the know-how on legal matters. I call on well-wishers to help me pursue a divorce case, she added.

The woman’s appeal comes in the wake of increased number of domestic violence and suicide cases in various parts of the county.

Last month, a 40 year old woman committed suicide by hanging herself using a rope in her sitting room at Masogo Village, Kothidha location in Homa Bay Sub County over domestic violence.
