The Mandera County Commissioner (CC), Kutswa Olaka has exuded confidence that security agents in the region will crackdown on terrorist ‘elements’ in in the region.
His sentiments follow reports of 35 Al Shabaab recruits from Mandera who are reportedly bound to join the group in Somalia.
The North Eastern Regional Coordinator (RC), Mohamud Saleh while in a tour of the region last week said the government has a list of 35 individuals from the area who have been recruited to join the outlawed terror outfit.
Saleh warned the government was on top of the issue and the recruits would soon be arrested to face the law.
Kutswa said the government was finalizing on security of the region and has involved area elders to curb attacks.
He said his team will be briefing the media after all arrangements are made and plans laid to tackle terrorism in the region.
The CC who reported to the station last December, speaking to KNA on Friday said terrorism will be a thing of the past in the region.
The region has borne the brunt of terror attacks since 2012 claiming hundreds of lives.
