Villagers Demand Security after Attack

Residents of Kamuge village in Turkana County have raised concerns over their security after Two people were killed while scores of others were seriously injured during an ambush last Friday.

At least 19 houses were torched during the dawn attack that left villagers in fear after more than 200 heavily armed bandits raided the sleepy village.

Kamuge Sub Location Senior Assistant Chief Joseph Kamaro said those killed were Korosi Lotagor, (20) and Lochakara Nayapar (30) while Four villagers were injured in the attack.

who had accompanied three villagers who were seriously injured in the dawn raid to Lodwar County and Referral Hospital said that they rescued 60 year old Lokolonyei Lokut from his burning house.

Mr. Lokut, who is nursing injuries here at the hospital could have died if neighbours had not coordinated his rescue.

He sustained injuries on the face, hand and chest, Mr. Kamaro said.

They have vowed to ensure they force us out of the village and ensure that all the houses are torched, Kamaro told KNA.

He further said the village has less than 10 police reservists, but commended the officers for repulsing the gangsters, who fled with two donkeys and five goats.

We have intelligence reports that the bandits are coming in a week’s time and therefore we need more security officers to be deployed in our area, he said.

He said as a result of the insecurity, Kamuge Primary school has closed down, and that health officials attached to Kamuge Dispensary were on the run.
