Vihiga Deputy Speaker receives death threats

County Deputy Speaker (DS), Richard Muhiga has allegedly received death threats after the formation of an adhoc committee to investigate how Vihiga county government spent some Shs. 2.5 billion.

Reportedly, this was not the first time members of the committee have received death threats through short messages warning that they would be killed together with their families.

Muhiga said he received two bullets and a note in an envelope on Monday at his home while resting with a friend in Shamakhokho.

“The envelope was delivered to me through my brother after a stranger gave the watchman who was manning the gate”, said Muhiga.

Muhiga said when he opened the envelope; he found the two bullets and a note indicating that one bullet was meant for him while the other was for the Chairman of the committee, Andrew Ahuga.

Muhiga, who is also Shamakhokho ward Member of County Assembly (MCA) said he had recorded a statement with the criminal investigation police officers who were handling the case.

The DS was speaking yesterday to the press at his home in Shamakhokho

While confirming the incident by phone, area OCPD, Alfred Angeng’o said police had launched investigations and they were treating it as a separate incident not connected with earlier threats to the committee members.

“We are handling this case differently and not connecting it to earlier threats that the members received”, said Angeng’o.

He said the MCA and other members of the committee have recorded statements and the matter was being pursued.

“The culprits will soon be known and legal action will be taken against them”, promised the police boss.
