Police in Kitale are investigating an incident in which a driver of a vehicle that was used to steal a cow in Kiminini rolled several times killing the driver.
Trans Nzoia East OCPD Jackson Mwenga said an unknown number of people went to the home of Leonard Odera in Kiminini using a Toyota probox registration number KCC 819R on Saturday night with the intention of stealing a cow.
However, their efforts were thwarted after the owner raised alarm. The OCPD said that the suspected thieves, after learning that the owner had raised alarm, tried to speed off with the cow in the vehicle.
According to police, the probox rolled several times killing the driver instantly. However, Mwenga said that police could not immediately establish how many people were in the vehicle and if they were also injured in the accident.
He said that neighbours who had responded to Odera’s distress call set the probox a blaze.
Police have identified the driver of the probox (deceased) as Joseph Kabarasi. His body was taken to the Kitale Referral Hospital mortuary.
However, the cow suffered slight injuries. Mwenga warned residents against taking the law into their hands.
