University of Nairobi’s Association of Medical Students has condemned the shooting of their colleague on Sunday morning as he walked to the Kenyatta National Hospital (KNH) where he was posted for training.
The Association officials led by their chairman, Mwalimu Eboso, have called for thorough investigations to unearth the motive behind the shooting of the student.
The university’s student union, Students Organisations of Nairobi University (SONU), has also threatened to call for a strike if the shooting incident is not investigated expeditiously and the culprits arrested in 39 hours.
The 5th year medical student only identified as Ralph sustained guns shot wounds in the 8.00am incident and is fighting for his life at KNH.
Speaking to the press Tuesday at the KNH, Eboso said the attackers seemed hell bent on stealing and harming their colleague.
The Association of Medical Students officials were accompanied by SONU campus representative Magare Magara who called on the Health Ministry to address security concerns facing medical students attached to KNH.
He said medical trainees should be provided with accommodation facilities near the hospital and transport services availed to them.
