Two police officers were today killed in a grissly accident when the vehicle they were traveling in was involved in a crash along the Sotik- Kericho highway.
Bomet County Police Commander Ms Leah Kithei said the accident vehicle, a Toyota Land Cruiser was transporting remandees from Litein police station of Kericho County to a Sotik law courts in Bomet when the accident occurred.
An eye witness interviewed at the scene of the accident said the driver of the ill-fated police vehicle was trying to overtake a lorry that was headed to the same direction when the driver swerved off the road to avoid a head-on collision with an oncoming vehicle before he lost control of it and rammed into a swamp near Ndaraja sita along the Sotik- Kericho highway.
The Police boss said 11 occupants aboard the vehicle attached to Sotik police station were injured and rushed to Kaplong hospital.
The remandees who were on board in the ill-fated Land Cruiser were critically injured and were later referred to Tenwek mission and Kapkatet hospitals in Bomet and Kericho counties respectively.
Ms Kithei said three police officers were seriously injured and are admitted to Kapkatet hospital alongside some of the remandees.
The County Commander said remains of the deceased are lying at Kapkatet hospital mortuary in Kericho County adding that their identity will be revealed once the next of kin have been notified.
