Two infants have drowned after they wandered away from their home Tuesday and plunged into Suna River near their home in Kolondo village in Homabay County.
The infants were at home alone as caregivers are said to have been engaged with farming chores elsewhere when the incident happened.
Rodix Emanuel, 2, and Charles Omondi, 1.5, drowned at around 10.30 in the morning but it is not clear how it happened and residents have called for police investigations.
Emanuel’s mother is a student in one of the local secondary schools in Rachuonyo east Sub County.
George Omondi Olela, a parent of the other child, said the children were left to play at home as they went about their daily chores in the farm not very far from the home, and could not imagine how the children left home for the river.
The infants were traced after they could not be seen at home, and bodies found floating on the river at noon.
Area chief Joseph Ndege confirmed the incident and warned residents against leaving children at home unattended.
