Two men were on Friday hospitalized in critical condition after a car ferrying miraa to Kitui smashed a motorbike on the busy Kitui-Nairobi road in Kitui town.
The two were headed to Kitui town from Matinyani when the speeding Probox smashed the motorcycle.
They sustained serious head, leg and arms injuries and were admitted at the Kitui Level Five hospital.
The occupants of the Probox escaped with minor injuries but the driver took off fearing being lynched by irate members of the public.
Witnesses said the Probox rammed the motorcycle as it tried to overtake a lorry. It had given the motorcycle rider a leeway to branch towards the Kalundu market.
The Probox driver was trying to overtake the lorry, said one resident.
The residents warned that they will take the law into their own hands and torch speeding vehicles ferrying miraa to the town accusing them of flouting traffic regulations.
