Two people are reported to have died in various parts of Taita-Taveta following heavy rains that are pounding the region.

In Taveta region, a Tanzanian national died while his brother narrowly escaped death after their house caved in due to heavy rains in Msengoni village.
According to reports by the area assistant Chief Mr. Kalia Sabaha, the two were sleeping in their house when a wall collapsed killing one of them instantly. His body was moved to Taveta sub-county hospital. There are fears that more destruction might be reported as the rains intensify in the region.
The authorities have already issued a warning to the residents to brace themselves for more heavy rainfall.

He added that the residents should also stay indoors during heavy downpours to avoid tragic incidents occasioned by rains.
Even as the situation is being monitored, we appeal to those living at sloping areas and valleys to move to safer grounds, he said.
