Transformers worth millions of shillings have been stolen in Matungu and Mumias West Constituencies of Kakamega County.
Following the theft, erratic power has usually culminated in disruption of businesses in the constituencies.
According to Kenya Power Company’s Business Manager, Eunice Wafula, Kakamega County, nine transformers have been stolen this year in the affected constituencies.
The Manager regretted that the local residents had experienced power blackout before the problem could be sorted out.
Subsequently, business fraternity and other consumers of electricity in the affected area have been adversely affected by the power failure after the thefts, the manager said, adding that this could be stopped through collaborative efforts.
However, Ms. Wafula noted that nobody was willing to identify people who were involved the vice.
The manager who was speaking at an interview in her office to-day appealed to the populace to assist in identifying culprits so that they may be arrested and arraigned in court.
She said that there were usually marks at the sites from which the transformers were stolen yet nobody could talk about what had transpired there.
The Manager suggested that a gadget to assist in having thieves of transformers netted be placed on each of them, at strategic positions.
