County government of Trans Nzoia County has set aside Sh.37.5million to support beauty pageant activities.
The County Executive Committee Member (CEC) in charge of Youth, Gender, Sports, Culture and Tourism Aggrey Chemonges said the money will be shared among the 25 wards with each ward receiving S.5million.
We shall have beauty pageant activities in every ward and I encourage our youth to participate fully in the contests, he said.
Chemonges was speaking in Kitale town during a beauty pageant contest for Miss Kitale held Monday.
He said it was through the activities that youths can showcase their talents so that they can be supported.
It is through such show cases that we pick the best talents and we support them, he said.
The CEC said the County had many talents among the youth but in the past, they have not been given opportunities to exploit them urging the youth to take advantage of the opportunity that has been provided.
He also urged the youth and women to form groups for them to benefit from the youth and women development fund subsidized by both the county and national governments.
We shall build your capacity as youth and women so that you come up with tangible proposals that can be supported, the CEC promised.
Come out we want to support you, he said.
Hospital Ward MCA Eric Wafula told the youth that they will receive support from elected leaders.
You can count on us, we want to nurture your talents, we are set to ensure that we promote talents of the youth in the county, he said.
The MCA encouraged the youth to look for means to create their own employment and benefit from the 30 per cent procurement opportunities that the government has reserved for them.
Kiminini MP Chris Wamalwa said he will work with the county in supporting beauty pageant activities.
We are going to give you all the support that you need to go far, he said.
He said the activities should receive more funding so that those who emerge winners proceed to other competitions.
