Traffic Police Officers Caught Taking Bribes

Three traffic Police officers were yesterday arrested by Ethics and Anti -Corruption Commission (EACC) sleuths in a sting operation for allegedly soliciting bribes from motorists along the Nairobi- Machakos highway.

Lower Eastern EACC regional manager Susan Kinyeki told the press the trio was arrested this morning near Kathome shopping center, a few kilometers from the Makutano Kyumvi junction.

The suspects Corporals Alfred Kangali, Carolyne Siango and Police Constable Alice Kajuju were arrested after the anti-corruption agency detectives trailed them for sometime after receiving complaints from members of the public.

We have been receiving numerous complaints from members of the public about the traffic officers harassing those with a view to extorting money. We undertook surveillance and we established it was true, and we managed to arrest the three officers, said the officer while addressing the press in Machakos.

Ms Kinyeki also said among those arrested is an officer who was nabbed in 2015 over similar allegations. She was eventually acquitted after the court ruled that the commission was not rightly constituted to handle the matter.

Today again she is our guest and we will definitely be charging her and her colleagues in a few days’ time, she added.

The officer further said the commission will present all the money the officers had collected from the motorists before the court as exhibit.
