Elgeyo Marakwet Governor, Alex Tolgos sent his condolences to family, relatives, friends and Kenyans in general following the death of retired president Daniel Toroitich arap Moi.
Tolgos said the retired president had a unique relationship with the county considering that he entered the national leadership from Tambach College where he was a teacher.
“It will be recalled that Mr Moi was a lecturer at Tambach College in Elgeyo Marakwet before being appointed to the Legco (Legistlative Council of Kenya) and from there to joining the national leadership,” said Tolgos.
Tolgos went on to say that the residents of the county had a close relationship with the retired president saying the house in which he lived in Tambach is still in existence and has been a memorial that evokes the grace of God to a humble teacher who has been raised and led the country for 24 years.
In a statement to the media, the governor said in his last visit to the county Moi advised officials to be concerned about the lives of future generations by investing in education.
Others who offered their condolences include Embobut / Embolot ward representative, Paul Kipyatich who called on leaders to emulate Moi’s example of seeking national unity.
