The crack down on unqualified boda boda operators launched

The Western Regional Coordinator (RC), Mongo Chimwaga has instructed security personnel to arrest and prosecute unlicensed boda boda riders in Kakamega County.

Chimwaga maintained that most road accidents involving boda bodas were attributable to unqualified riders.

He said they were working closely with courts to ensure that all traffic offenders were dealt with firmly to prevent accidents.

Chimwaga told KNA in his office on Wednesday that he had directed the Regional Traffic Commander to ensure that the officers manning the roads were enforcing the law and regulations to the letter to realize road safety.

His stance comes against the backdrop of an incident where five people riding on a motorbike died near Sigalagala junction in late December after the rider rammed into a car.

The officer also said confiscation of gambling machines was ongoing and two foreign national had been nabbed in Khayega area of Shinyalu Sub County for operating the illegal business.
