Security agencies in Malaba town on Tuesday arrested a middle-aged man possessing politically malicious leaflets.
According to Teso North Deputy County Commissioner (DCC), Justus Musau, police working on a tip off arrested, Ian Karani Omboma in a hotel in Malaba town minutes after he had disembarked from an Eldoret-Malaba shuttle.
The man was carrying Jubilee Party T-shirts and caps and hundreds of leaflets in an envelope with the message Watu wa Jubilee wahame Busia County mara moja or else watakiona. Musau explained, adding that the man will be arraigned in court as soon as the police complete investigations.
He said the police suspect the man and his unknown accomplices might have wanted to burn the T-shirts and caps and then after distribute the hate leaflets to instill fear among members of the public.
The DCC warned individuals with ill intentions of instigating violence before during or after elections that they will not succeed and will face the full force of the law.
He disclosed to KNA that security agencies in the border Sub-county have put in place adequate measures to combat any incitement attempts and they will not hesitate to apprehend anybody found culpable.
We are not going to allow individuals, regardless of their social status to incite members of the public against each other.
We also appeal to politicians to seek for votes peacefully without inciting their supporters against their opponents, Musau cautioned.
