Property of unknown value was reduced to ashes early Tuesday after a fire blazed a plot in Maina village on the outskirts of Nyahururu town, Laikipia County.
The inferno that rendered ten families homeless is said to have started at around 1:50 am and continued for two hours as the helpless villagers tried to put out.
The cause has not been established although it is alleged to have been caused by a candle as there was a blackout at the time of the incident.
A victim Jackson Gateri who sustained minor burns trying to save his motorbike said the fire erupted from his neighbour.
The fire started at the house next to mine and when I moved out with my wife and children, I went back to get my motorcycle, I managed to move it out though with burns on my back, said Gateri.
Area MCA Joseph Kiguru, promised to ensure the affected families were assisted.
The disaster management team is doing all it can to see how they will help the victims. In the meantime, we are going to ensure they get some basic needs, Kiguru said.
