Teacher suspected of killing wife arrested in Makindu Town

Police have arrested a secondary school teacher suspected of killing his wife and injuring her aunt at Nguumo estate in Wote town last month.

Daniel Nzioka Mbote, a teacher in Kitondo Boys High School was arrested on Tuesday in Makindu town on the Mombasa-Nairobi highway on his way from Voi.

Confirming the arrest, Makueni OCPD, Philip Opiyo said the suspect who fled immediately after the incident was tracked through his mobile phone.

We have been hunting for him since last December after he fled and switched off his phone but a signal was tracked yesterday leading to the arrest, said Opiyo.

The OCPD said the suspect who is being held at the Makueni police station will soon be arraigned in Court to face a murder charge.

The suspect allegedly killed his wife, M/s Esther Mumbe, 24, using a kitchen knife on December 14, 2015 following a domestic quarrel.

Opiyo further added the suspect further stabbed his wife’s aunt, M/s Agnes Nyiva as she tried to rescue the victim who was set to graduate from Kenyatta University the same week.
