Suspected witch saved by the police from being lynched

Quick action by the police on Thursday saved a 62- year old man from being lynched by a mob for allegedly practicing witchcraft at Kiwandani suburb in the outskirts of Kilifi town, Kilifi County.

The mob set ablaze a poultry house and a food granary as they bayed for the blood of Stephen Karisa Mkare whom they accused of bewitching two of his children.

Kilifi OCPD, Joshua ole Leina said police shot in the air to disperse the mob as the suspect locked himself in his house.

“Karisa is with us at Kilifi police station as we seek consultations from the security team as to where to take him. His home is no longer safe for him”, Leina said.

According to the residents, Karisa was believed to have been behind the death of his son Kazungu Karisa who passed on in 2009 after an accident and his nephew Amani Ngumbao who died last December.
