The Kericho Police have arrested a suspect who has been on the run for ten months after he allegedly defiled and impregnated a 13-year-old pupil in Kapyoren village in Soin/Sigowet sub-county.
Confirming the incident, the Kericho Deputy Officer Commanding Police Division (OCPD), Nathan Sanya said the 37-year-old, identified as Ronald Kipngeno Kemboi was arrested at his home on Friday.
He added that the suspect had fled the village, and was arrested following a tip off by villagers. He said the victim deserved justice following the traumatizing experience.
You can imagine you have been defiled and you get pregnant and are now supposed to take care of a child while you yourself are a child from an unfortunate incident. The perpetrator will be arraigned in court to face justice, said Sanya.
According to the father of the victim, his daughter, a class five pupil at Bartsaian Primary School has already given birth following the alleged defilement by his neighbor and has since dropped out of school to take care of the child.
My daughter gave birth on 27 January and has stopped attending school to take care of the baby, he said.
He said the crime was committed when he requested the suspect to watch over his home while he took care of his sick wife, who was recuperating at Kericho County referral hospital some time last year.
He added that his daughter told him the suspect defiled and threatened her with death if she told anyone.
The suspect, who has two children and a wife, took advantage of the situation when my wife was admitted in hospital for treatment on 26 May 2017, he pointed out.
The father of five claimed that he only found out the pregnancy from her daughter’s teachers after they noticed a change in behavior and took her to Ainamoi sub-county hospital where she was confirmed pregnant.
He said that he reported the matter at Ainamoi police post on 9 October last year and booked in the occurrence book as OB 6.
