A middle aged man was on Friday lynched by mob at Kobodo trading centre in Ndhiwa constituency who accused him of stealing a motorbike recently.
The unidentified suspect was cornered at Kadem in Nyatike constituency, Migori County by boda boda operators.
The irate mob beat him to death using crude weapons and set his body ablaze after he refused to disclose the whereabouts of the lost motorcycle.
Confirming the incident to KNA, Ndhiwa Sub County OCPD, Nixon Makhoha said that the boda boda operators who have been tracing the suspect got a tip off from their counterpart at Kadem that he had been spotted and they
immediately rushed there baying for his blood.
Makokha said police could not identify him since he had no national identification card or any other document which could reveal his identity. The public also did not recognize him as he was not a resident of the area, he added.
The OCPD warned the public especially the boda boda operators to desist from lynching suspects and instead always report suspicious characters to the police for legal action.
He said that the suspect is always presumed innocent until proven guilty by the court after police investigations.
The body has been removed to Homa-Bay County Teaching and Referral morgue as investigations begin.
