A Sunday school teacher who was arrested three weeks ago on suspicion of attempting to sodomize and defile was on Friday arraigned before a Thika court for the mention of his case and setting of a hearing date.
The accused, Peter Muturi Njuguna who is a Sunday school teacher with an Evangelical church located within Thika town appeared before the Senior Resident Magistrate, Grace Omodho and the hearing of his case was fixed for 31st January, 2019.
The prosecution requested for ample time to consolidate enough evidence due to the sensitivity of the case taking into consideration that the three victims were siblings from the same family and the suspect in question is an elder in a local church.
The court granted the request.
The accused is charged that on diverse dates of between 18th of June 2017 and the 15th of September this year in Ngoigwa estate, Njuguna attempted to sodomize a 14 year old boy whom he was nursing after undergoing the rite of passage.
The accused who is said to be a very close friend of the family of the victims is also facing another count of attempting to sodomize a 12 year old boy of the same family on the 3rd of September this year.
In addition to the two counts the accused is also facing charges of attempting to defile a 17 year old girl of the same family.
The accused denied the charges when he appeared in the same court and is out on bail of 300,000 shillings for every count and a surelity of a similar mount.
The case has elicited a lot of emotions in Thika town and its environs as the accused person is the founder of the rite of passage initiative within the Thika Evangelical Churches and is said to consolidate over 150 young boys every December to take them through post circumcision healing.
