The West Kenya Sugar Millers and Rai Paper Mills have been put on the spot over their collusion to import and repackage hazardous sugar at the pan paper facility.
The Bungoma Governor, Wycliffe Wangamati stated that it was shameful that investors who had been given a chance to do business, were greedy to the point of hurting the consumer.
It is so sad that West Kenya is involved in such unscrupulous business. We cannot allow such businessmen to continue killing our industries and poisoning our people.
I urge the Cabinet Secretary for Interior (CS), Fred Matiang’i to quickly pay a visit to Pan Paper and unravel how the company has been aiding this crime, Wangamati.
As part of addressing the issue of Sugarcane farmers’ woes, the governor stated that his counterparts from the lake region had scheduled a meeting with the Cabinet Secretary for Agriculture in order to address the challenges and forge a way forward.
Wangamati took the opportunity to reiterate his commitment towards promotion of education in Bungoma.
The only factor that can move people from poverty in this region is education and that is why I won’t stop supporting education, he said.
The Governor went on to commit that as part of reinvesting in the county, he would allow the Kenya Devolution Support Program that is scheduled to take place in August to be held at the newly built multi- purpose hall at Chebukaka Girls Secondary School.
He advised the institution to put the money to good use. I will give opportunities for institutions to make money from existing infrastructure, but I request that you use the income to help the needy and meet the development gaps, he said.
