Students may miss KCPE and KSCE after vital bridge collapses

The National examinations in Mautuma location, Lugari Sub County, Kakamega County, may be adversely affected after a bridge along Makutano-Ivona road collapsed.

According to local people scores of students in the area may miss national examinations as the Makuyu Bridge connects their respective schools and homes.

Those to be affected are day school students at Mukonge and Makuyu Girls’ Secondary Schools. The others are pupils at St. Louis Saisi and Mukuyu Primary schools.

The Lugari Peace Committee treasurer, Imelda Kibande called for immediate reconstruction of the bridge which collapsed last Friday following torrential rains pounding the area.

They expressed fear that failure to connect the road could disrupt distribution of KCPE and KSCE papers, noting that their economic activities at Makutano market had been interrupted after the passage collapsed.

Those posting massive losses daily are transporters to the busy market, said a resident, Moses Ombeya, who claimed to have raised an alarm immediately the bridge started cracking in August this year.
