Staff at the Makueni County Government have been given a three week ultimatum to sign Performance Contracting (PC) with their immediate supervisors.
Issuing the ultimatum, Governor Kivutha Kibwana warned that they should sign the performance contracting before 15/03/2018 or risk stoppage of their salaries.
Prof. Kibwana said on Wednesday at Kwa-Kathoka Agricultural Training Centre (ATC) where he signed performance contracting with his Executive Committee Members (ECMs) of various departments of the government.
However, the governor reminded the workers that performance contracting was not meant to punish anyone but was a way of ensuring services were delivered to the public in a responsive manner.
All 3,445 staff at the county government must sign performance contracting in three weeks’ time and justify their pay, posed Prof. Kibwana.
While saying performance contracting has been proved to bring service delivery in private and in public service, he disclosed that this will be a culture to be embraced to ensure development was realised in the area.
During the event, the governor promised to facilitate all the workers to realise their targets while, adding that he will sign his performance contracting with the people of Makueni on 15/03/2018.
I will sign my performance contracting with the people of Makueni, this will make me to be accountable to my employers, he observed.
However, he expressed his concerns over the flow of monies from the national government to the county saying this will hamper his efforts of developing the area.
My government has received money for only four months instead of eight. This constrained flow of money from the national government will hinder our efforts of delivering services to the people, Kibwana said.
In this regard, he challenged the national government to disburse the funds on time in order to enable the counties render services to wananchi.
On his part, the Makueni County Secretary, Paul Wasanga said that performance contracting Helps to allocate resources appropriately hence embraces team work for the realisation of goals intended.
