Six people were critically injured on Sunday, when the vehicle they were travelling in lost control and landed in a ditch along the in Mbooni West Sub-County.
During the 4.00 a.m. accident which occurred at Nzaini Village, Uthiuni Sub-location, 43 others sustained minor bruises and are all being treated at the Mbooni Sub-county Hospital.
Confirming the incident, Makueni County Police Commander (CPC), Joseph Ole Naipeyan confirmed those seriously injured suffered broken limps like legs, hands, disfigured face and even head.
Among the victims were Grace Mutunga (10), Rose Ngina (47), Teresia Nzula (40), Ndisa Musembi (2), Rose Mwikali Muteti (46) and Sera Munini (86).
The ill fated vehicle Isuzu belongs to Utangwa high school but had been hired by the Utangwa PCEA Church in Mbooni and was headed to Sombe in Kitui County.
The driver, Peter Muthini Komu is alleged to have lost control of the vehicle as he negotiated a corner following brakes failure, said Naipeyan.
The vehicle was towed to the Mbooni Police Station, awaiting inspection report.
The CPC advised motorists to observe traffic rules to avoid causing preventable accidents.
