The Bondo MPs office through the National Constituency Development Fund (NG-CDF)has renewed payment of health cover for over 320 village elders who were enrolled under the NHIF last year with Sh 1.9 million.
According to Bondo MP, Dr. Gideon Ochanda, the leadership has noticed that the village elders experience difficulties to access proper healthcare services, hence the need for the medical cover.
Speaking during the renewal exercise at the CDF hall in Bondo town, the MP stated that after enrolling the village elders into the NHIF, most of them were still unable to pay for the monthly subscriptions on their own.
Dr. Ochanda expressed concern that despite the village elders’ hard work in enhancing the provision of national government services at the grassroots level, their welfare was wanting.
He stated that they took the move as a way of appreciating the good work that the village elders were doing.
The legislator said they also plan to upscale the programme to reach at least 600 village elders in the next financial year.
Dr. Ochanda said some elderly and vulnerable members of the community who are unable to pay for the health cover will also be considered.
