A nominated senator has pledged to champion for the allocation of more funds to the department of Arts and Culture to help youth stop drug abuse across the country.
The Dagoretti North Constituency candidate who is currently a nominated Senator Beatrice Elachi said since the department is under-funded, she will champion for more funds if she is elected in the August 8th polls
Speaking during a final gala concert marking the end of a 12- day training for more than 50 Isiolo and Marsabit youth sponsored by the Permanent Presidential Music Commission (PPMC), the nominated senator who had accompanied Arts and Culture Principal Secretary (PS) Joe Okudo said drug abuse among the youth needed to be addressed.
I thank the Jubilee government for allocating S00million to the unit but still believe that more is needed to help youth create employment through their creativity and talent, said Senator Elachi.
The PS said the national government talent development programme will be rolled out in several counties.
At least 1,600 youth have benefited from the programme countrywide since the inception of the commission in 2009.
The artists were trained on entrepreneurial skills, marketing and branding in bid to create self employment through music and dance.
