Security operation intensified against suspected bandits

Two people were killed early on Wednesday when National Police Reservists (NPRs) repulsed suspected armed bandits, who attacked a village in Loiyangalani Sub-county of Marsabit County.

The Marsabit County Commissioner (CC), Gilbert Kitiyo said the attackers, believed to be from a neighbouring county, were killed and another seven others seriously wounded in a fierce battle at Sarima village.

Kitiyo said a contingent of security personnel from the General Service Unit (GSU) and Administration Police, backed with air surveillance has been sent to comb the area and bring the suspects to justice.

The attackers suspected to be from a neighbouring county attacked the village early this morning, but were repulsed by NPRs on the ground, he said adding, we did not suffer any casualties or injuries on our side.

The CC added that investigations into the incident have started to establish the motive of the attack.

He warned that the government was determined to provide security to the residents and their property, adding that anybody engaging in activities that could negate the gains made will be dealt with without any mercy.

The incident comes barely two days after another attack was staged in nearby Oltorot area by armed suspected bandits that left three family members dead and a two year child seriously injured.
