A survey carried out by Ipsos Research firm has ranked Safaricom as the most influential brand in Kenya in the year 2015.
According to the research, a total of 100 brands were evaluated and ranked across 21 countries in the world with Kenya and Nigeria being the only Sub-Saharan countries included in the study.
The findings of the survey shows that Safaricom has the highest telephony subscribers of which over 20 million are in Kenya with a record of 11.6 million people who are active monthly mobile data subscribers.
Ipsos East Africa Head of Marketing and Clients, Mr Samuel Muthoka said Safaricom is one of the most profitable companies in Kenya, East and Central Africa region, making it the most trusted and preferred brand for communication.
Muthoka said the study had indicated that Kenyans trust Safaricom as it is a major sponsor of various development programmes, initiatives and projects that transform the lives of the people in different parts of the country.
Announcing the top ten most influential brands Tuesday at a Nairobi hotel, Muthoka said Safaricom, a leading mobile operator in East Africa was ranked the best brand because of the trust and presence felt by its users.
Out of the 5,000 brands selected for the survey in Kenya a total of 106 brands were examined.
M-Pesa service was ranked second, followed by Citizen TV, Radio Citizen was fourth, Colgate (5), Facebook (6), Omo (7), Ariel (8), Kenya Power (9) while Equity Bank was at position 10.
The Ipsos 2015 survey has also shown that Kenya is a stronghold for local brands with six local brands dominating the top ten.
