Roads to be built despite Murungi’s objection

The Meru County Government will spend Sh7.4 billion to build low-cost roads despite opposition from Senator Kiraitu Murungi.

During his state-of-the county address Friday, Governor Peter Munya urged the county assembly to approve the proposal on construction of the 150-kilometre roads by Probase Kenya Ltd.

Mr Murungi has termed the project illegal and urged the county assembly to reject it.

But Mr Munya said the devolved government was ready to float a tender to give room to contractors with cheaper technology to use it.

The technology by Probase Kenya has also caught the attention of the national government, he said.

Embu and Samburu counties are already using the technology and I hope the assembly will approve the proposal.

The governor also raised concerns over a Bill in the National Assembly that intends to revert early childhood education to the central government.
