The Teachers Service Commission has advertised 70,000 jobs for relief teachers who will be employed on a three-month contract.
Primary schools have a higher slot of 50,000 teachers and secondary schools will get 20,000. However, this will not offer a lasting solution to the current teachers’ strike.
Instead, it will injure the economy by increasing the wage bill. Paying 70,000 teachers is no joke. The commission should instead focus on dialogue with the striking teacher’s representatives — Knut and Kuppet for dialogue.
The TSC should put an offer on the table for teachers instead of recruiting new ones. Children need to resume their studies soon as the year is almost ending.
