Residents lynch suspect in a foiled robbery

A man was on Thursday beaten to death after he attempted to steal a cow at Kapkoi Sisal village in Kapkoi location in Endebbes Sub County.

The Trans Nzoia Police boss, Jackson Mwenga told KNA that the man was in the company of two other suspects who escaped the wrath of the public.

Residents had told police that the three had attempted to steal a cow from the home of Dismas Juma Nabiimba at about 5am.

Three unknown men entered into one of the village’s home and tried to steal a cow but the owner alerted other neighbors immediately when he noticed something unusual outside his house, area village elders David Wamalwa told KNA in an interview.

Residents who respondent to the distress call from Juma gave a chase to the gang who took to their heels and dispersed to different directions.

However, the irate residents managed to corner one suspect and subjected him to a thorough beating.

Police who were informed of the incident quickly rushed to the scene to rescue the suspect and took him to hospital where he later died.

However, he succumbed to injuries inflicted through beating at the Kitale Referral hospital where he was undergoing treatment.

Mwenga however, faulted residents for taking the law into their hands warning that mob justice is punishable by law.

He also said that police were pursuing the two other suspects who escaped and asked anyone with information to volunteer it to help police arrest them.

The body was moved to the hospital’s mortuary awaiting identification.
