Residents of Lunyerere village, Vihiga county, deserted their homes yesterday after 11 strangers arrived at a mosque on a pilgrimage ahead of Eid ul-Fitr. The 11 were from Mandera county. Residents informed police and and NIS officers who cordoned off Bo Yussuf Mosque for about an hour.
The officers searched the pilgrims’ bags and questioned them. The 11 said they were on a pilgrimage. The officers took photocopies of their ID cards and left but declined to divulge any information to journalists. Sheikh Amir Abdi Fatar Ali, the leader of the 11, addressed journalists and assured residents that they were on a good mission of faith.
