Residents of Bungoma County were Friday asked to maintain peace during the electioneering period.
Speaking during the opening of Bungoma County peace forum held at Mabanga ATC, Bungoma County Commissioner, Joshua Chepchieng asked residents to uphold peace during the electioneering period.
Chepchieng said for the county and country to realise their development agenda peace was necessary.
He called on all the peace ambassadors in the county to preach peace in all the meetings they attend in the run up to general election.
He also asked politicians to hold peaceful campaigns and focus on issue-based politics.
He warned those who are planning to spread hate speech and propaganda on social media that stern action would be taken against them.
He commended Cheptais and Mt. Elgon sub Counties for maintaining peace saying they should keep up with the same spirit as they will need each other after the election which is a one day event.
He urged youths to desist from being used by politicians to start chaos and start money generating projects that will empower them economically.
