Reps Against Speaker Return to Boycott

Fifteen Elgeyo Marakwet MCAs have threatened to resign from the assembly’s committees because speaker Albert Kochei resumed duty before being cleared by the anti-graft agency.

Kochei had stepped aside after being named in the list of shame released by President Uhuru Kenyatta in March.

He returned to the assembly on Tuesday, amid protests from some MCAs, who want him to clear his name before resuming work.

“I have been out for 96 days and since I have no issue against me, I’m happy to be back. I will work with all the leaders and residents,” Kochei said.

The 15 MCAs have resolved to boycott any sittings chaired by Kochei.
