Recruitment Bribery Saga lands man in Jail

A Mandera court Monday jailed a man for one year after he was found guilty of attempting to bribe an officer during a KDF recruitment exercise.

Issack Hassan Abdi 22, appeared before Resident Magistrate Duncan Mtai charged with attempting to give s00, 000 to Corporal Ben Chweya, as bribe during the exercise at D.E.B primary in Elwak, Mandera South Sub-County, in 2017.

The offence was committed on May 30, 2017 where the officer turned down the offer and called for the accused’s arrest.

The court heard that KDF officer advised the accused to go and start a business with the money instead of trying to compromise the recruitment process.

The court was told that the accused tried to compromise the recruitment officers after he was told he had failed medical test due to dental complications.

In his ruling, the magistrate noted that, the bribe was to act as an inducement, to facilitate unethical recruitment and the jail term will serve as an example to other similar incidences in future
