World-class professional development programmes will soon be set up for media personnel. The project will be spearheaded by Germany’s leading media organisation Deutsche Welle and the Aga Khan University Graduate School of Media and Communication. The two signed an MoU yesterday in Westlands.
Deutsche Welle’s director general Peter Limbourg said a free press that digs deeper to get information is critical. Dean Michael Meyer said: “More than 200 students will have been trained by the end of this year.” “Many print journalists are not good in new media. They do not know how to make a video for instance. We need people who understand consumer issues, finance as Kenya moves to a middle income country.”
