Two prisoners serving their jail term in Isiolo Prison want to re-sit Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) to improve their results.
Lemantile Lerupuka, 40, Royman Lolparnai, 21, who scored 110 and 213 respectively in last year’s KCPE, expressed interest to repeat the exam since they felt they had not prepared properly. They said they studied for the exam for less than a year.
They were among the five inmates who sat the KCPE last year(2015). Two inmates completed their jail terms and were released recently.
Lerupuka, a father of four was jailed for seven years after being found in possession of an illegal firearm in Archers Post area, Samburu County.
Lolparnai was jailed for robbery and plans to become a Member of Parliament.
Apart from Lolparnai who had studied up to class four, the other prisoners had not been to school.
They thanked the prison department for the support saying being in prison had lightened up their dreams.
Isiolo County Prisons Commander Mr. Hassan Ibrahim congratulated the inmates for their determination to pursue education even while in jail.
He said the rehabilitation and correctional institution emphasised on empowering the inmates with skills that would help them cope with the outside life challenges once out of prison.
