Police are looking for divers to help retrieve the body of a 19-year-old man who drowned in a dam at Olopito in Narok North Sub County on Sunday evening.
The area Deputy OCPD Mr. Charles Ouma said they have been unable to retrieve the body in the dam and will work with the Kenya Red Cross to seek skilled divers to retrieve the body.
“Our efforts to retrieve the body in the last two days have been futile as the dam is expansive and we hope that the rains pounding the area can help the body to float to the surface,” he said.
The man who was herding livestock allegedly removed his clothes and tried to lure another man to jump into the dam before plunging into the water.
Mr. Ouma said the man has since gone underground. “This young man would have given us vital information on this suspected case of suicide,” he said.
Ouma said that the body could be stuck in the mud deposited in the dam during the recent El-nino rains.
The 5,000 cubic meter capacity dam is among the 10 dams and over 20 water pans constructed by the national and county government recently to control perennial flooding which has caused havoc in Narok town in the past.
