A police officer was killed by three assailants as he guarded the Gulf African Bank in Bondeni, Mombasa, on Friday.

The men went to the bank posing as customers and approached the officer, whose colleague had gone into the bank.

The robbers snatched his G3 rifle, shot the officer three times in the head and killed him, before escaping with the loaded gun, Mombasa OCPD Martin Asin said.

“Their intention was not to steal any money from the bank since they took off after the murder incident,” he said.

Asin said this was the second time the men tried to kill the officer.

“The first time they attempted to kill him was two months ago but they did not succeed. This time round they have finished him off,” he said.

Police are investigating the incident.
