Police in Nyahururu town, Laikipia County have launched investigations into two mysterious deaths after the discovery of the bodies on Sunday evening.
The body of Mr Lukas Mwiga Meme, 26, a boda boda operator, was discovered by a villager who was herding cattle at Silale village while that of Mr John Kiragu, 27, was reportedly found lying inside his house at Maina slums.
Nyandarua North OCPD Morris Assilah said the body of Meme, who went missing on the night of December 31, 2014 was found with multiple injuries on the head and chest.
Meme who operated in Nyahururu town was allegedly accosted by an unknown gang of men who stole his motorcycle and killed him after tying him on a tree.
“The deceased’s brother had reported to us that he went missing on the eve of New Year. We put a notice but two days later he was found murdered,” said the OCPD.
“The Killer or killers may have used a panga to attack him because he had several head and chest injuries before strangling him with his jacket. Investigations are ongoing to establish the motive and those behind it,” said Mr Assilah.
The police boss said that the body of Mr Kiragu who was found dead inside his house in Maina slums had no injuries and police are yet to establish the cause of the death.
“According to the family members they had dinner with the deceased on Saturday night only to be found dead in his house the following morning,” he added.
Mr Assilah at the same time warned boda boda operators in the town against carrying strange passengers, especially at night to keep safe following a wave of crime in the area.
“We call for cooperation from the boda boda operators as we attempt to deal with this crime. Police are here to protect them and other citizens but they should also take precautions and avoid working in the wee hours of the night,” he added.
The bodies were moved to Nyahururu hospital mortuary awaiting postmortem reports as investigations into the incidents continue.
