Police investigate suicide incident

Police in Kitale are investigating an incident in which a 13 year old standard six pupil committed suicide yesterday in their house in Tuwani estate in Kitale town.

Police say the girl who hanged herself in her bedroom at around 12 noon left a suicide note which is helping them with investigations.

According to Trans Nzoia police commander Samson Ole Kina, the suicide note had indicated that the girl felt upset after the mother accused her of sexual relations with boys in the estate.

Assistant chief Tuwan sub location Jackline Sitoya however confirmed that the mother Grace Wanjiru had sought her assistance over the girl’s behavior which had also affected her learning.

Last year the girl’s mother sought assistance from me to have the girl go back to school after she refused to attend classes at Central primary school. Today am surprised that the girl had been transferred to Tuwani primary school by the time of her death, she told KNA.

According a neighbour Habiba Hawa, the mother transferred the girl to Tuwani primary school this year after she declined to continue with learning at Central Primary school.

Speaking to KNA at their Tuwani house, the mother said the girl committed suicide in her bedroom after she left her alone in the house to go to her business after attending a church service yesterday morning.

We didn’t have any differences and am surprised that this has happened, she said.
