Police Find Leads in Mumias Staff Killing

Police in Matungu sub-county, Kakamega County are investigating an incident where Mumias Sugar Company legal officer was shot and killed at his home in Lukusi village.

The area Criminal Investigations Officer Mr. Robert Muriithi said that police were following crucial leads in connection with the killing of 48 year old Joseph Lubiya to establish the motive of the killing.

Muriithi who was talking to KNA in his office said that the three attackers who were armed with knives, machetes and a pistol stormed into the house of the deceased at 10 pm on Sunday night and killed him.

They also stole electronics and cash before driving away in the deceased’s vehicle.

The DCIO said the vehicle was later recovered four kilometers away from the scene of the incident where it had been abandoned.

He said neighbours who heard a distress call from the family rushed the deceased to hospital but he was pronounced dead on arrival.

The DCIO said that the deceased had reported threats to his life to the company security, a matter that was being investigated.

He said the deceased was shot twice on the head.
