Police assure tourists of safety after gangsters kill Italian doctor in Watamu

Police spokesman Charles Owino said on Sunday that the mastermind involved in the murder of Dr Rita Fossacaca at her private villa have been identified and will soon be captured.

“We have his name and other details identifying him.

We shall have him in our custody soonest, as he does not have a place and opportunity to hide,” he said at his Vigilance House office in Nairobi.

Speaking on behalf of Inspector-General of Police Joseph Boinnet, the spokesman said three suspects have so far been arrested and are helping police with investigations.

Although he did not reveal the identity of the alleged mastermind, Mr Owino said he is of Kenyan origin.

Six gangsters, one armed with a pistol and others with pangas, stormed the villa in Watamu, Malindi Sub-County, at 9pm on Saturday as Dr Fossacaca and her colleagues were having dinner.

Police said the doctor had tried to challenge the gangsters when they beat up her parents
