Police arrest man over wife’s death

Police in Kitale have arrested a 30 year old man for allegedly beating his wife to death at Mbioani village Cheranganyi sub county Trans Nzoia County.

Police reports indicated that Beliam Juma Osundwa, quarreled with his wife Lydia Chemeli Kemboi, 24, on Sunday night, before hitting her with a blunt object on the face and head. She died instantly.

Trans Nzoia county police Commander Samson Ole Kine, who confirmed the incident said that the suspect would be taken for a mental check- up before being arraigned in court.

Speaking to KNA at Mbioni village, an assistant chief of Michai sub location Evans Wandabi, told KNA that the couple which had been having disputes for a long time were drunk during the incident.

The assistant chief said a neighbour who had gone to check on her Monday morning found the woman lying in a pool of blood at the door of the house which also revealed broken bottles of alcohol when the house was opened.

The assistant chief also told KNA that the suspect, a father of three, after committing the offense did not escape did laundry early Monday morning outside the house before being arrested by the police.

I urge those in marriage to exercise maturity and seek advice from elders whenever they have conflicts. Killing someone is not a solution in life, said Mr. Wandabi.

The county police commander said that the suspect was arrested after the assistant chief called in police. We will arraign him in court once we complete investigations, he said.
