Security forces in Kitale Monday arrested 50 people and impounded 20 rolls of bhang in an illegal brew raid at folkland in Kitale town.
The raid led by Kitale West OCPD Jackson Mwenga alongside chiefs, their assistants and village elders also impounded over 200 litres of changaa and 1000 litres of busaa.
Mwenga said that Folkland has been notorious for illegal brewing and the area has highest rate of criminal activities.
All criminal activities are planned during taking of this illegal brew and the government will not relent in its efforts to stamp out illegal brews, he said..
Last week, Trans Nzoia County commissioner Erastus Mbui ordered security agents in the region to crack down on illegal brews.
Mbui said that though regulation of local brews was a function of county governments, the national government will not relent in its efforts to fight the vice up to the time the county governments pass laws that will regulate the illicit brew.
Trans Nzoia County government is yet to make laws that will regulate local brews, Politicians in the region have however politicized the issue and have in political functions asked residents to take the illegal brew which according to them is traditional and has no harm.
Kiminini MP Chris Wamalwa for instance in a past function said that the county government should allow taking of the local brew.
Trans Nzoia county government has however made a bill on the same and the matter is yet to be debated and passed into law.
